Official Statement from the Alberta Prosperity Project Regarding Inaccurate Location Data on X (formerly Twitter)

The Alberta Prosperity Project (APP) is aware that X’s new “About this account” location feature is currently displays incorrect geographic information for our official X account (@ABProsperityPrj), as well as for many other Canadian political and organizational accounts.

We wish to state clearly and unequivocally:

  • The Alberta Prosperity Project is 100 % Alberta-rooted and Alberta-run.
  • Every policy, strategy, communication, and leadership decision is made in Alberta by Alberta volunteers.

Like millions of Canadians and Canadian organizations, we have taken common-sense digital precautions that are now widely used by those concerned about expanding federal oversight of online speech. In light of proposed legislation such as Bill C-63, which would grant authorities new powers to monitor, throttle, or shut off internet access, we have taken proactive steps to protect the privacy of our volunteers and supporters while keeping Albertans fully informed and not letting our voice for Alberta independence be silenced by Ottawa.

The erroneous location label is simply a technical limitation of X’s new feature, which relies on aggregated IP data easily affected by routine privacy tools, cloud services, travel, or platform glitches. Identical inaccuracies have appeared on the accounts of the Liberal Party of Canada, the BC NDP, CBC News, other major Canadian media outlets, and numerous domestic organizations.

APP remains fully committed to transparency. Albertans can see our grassroots movement in action every week by attending one of the 3–5 town halls we host across the province, from Fort McMurray to Lethbridge. Everyone is welcome.grassroots movement in action every week by attending one of the 3–5 town halls we host across the province, from Fort McMurray to Lethbridge. Everyone is welcome.
