What is the future of Alberta if we do nothing?

WATCH: About the Alberta Prosperity Project

Introduction

Alberta, known for its vast landscapes and thriving energy sector, stands at a crossroads. The province’s fate hangs precariously in the balance, as it grapples with a myriad of challenges that threaten its future prosperity. If Alberta continues on its current trajectory without gaining more sovereignty within Canada, the consequences could be dire.

Perpetual Subservience to Eastern Interests

Since joining confederation in 1905, Alberta has often found itself at the mercy of decisions made in the eastern corridors of power. The province, along with its Indigenous communities, risks remaining perpetually subservient to the interests of eastern Canada, as originally intended by the Laurentian elites. As Clifford Sifton, the Minister of the Interior of the Liberal government of Sir Wilfred Laurier stated, “…the great trade (wealth) of the prairies shall go to enrich our people in the east, to build up our factories and our places of work, …” This status quo stifles Alberta’s autonomy and undermines its ability to chart its own course.

Environmental Policies and Resource Constraints leading to Economic Recession and Dependency

The imposition of carbon taxes and stringent environmental regulations threatens Alberta’s vital oil and gas industry, upon which its economy heavily relies. Despite the province’s adherence to high environmental and social standards, federal policies constrain resource development, hampering Alberta’s ability to harness its natural wealth for the benefit of its citizens. Such an approach to the oil and gas industry in the Canadian prairies is an existential threat since, presently, there is no other way to provide reliable, cost-effective energy to provide heat in extreme winter conditions. The province’s once-booming energy sector will be crushed through restrictive regulations and stifled development, leading to economic stagnation and dependency.

  • The Federal Government wants to the complete elimination of power generation from oil, gas, and coal by 2035.
  • A member of parliament has presented a bill to make it a crime to speak in favour of the oil and gas sector.
  • Bill S 243 (the “Climate-Aligned Finance Act”) will make it a crime for any financial institution to invest in our oil and gas industry.
  • The Federal Government’s stated intent to use Bill C69 to cancel a proposed Alberta to Alaska railway, maintaining limits on Alberta’s ability to export and import resources.

Federal Overreach and Interference

The federal government’s encroachment into provincial domains undermines Alberta’s autonomy and governance. Federal overreach stifles innovation, hampers economic growth, and limits the province’s ability to address its unique challenges effectively. Alberta’s voice is drowned out by Ottawa’s directives, leaving its concerns unaddressed and its potential untapped. Furthermore, the federal government appears to be relinquishing Canadian sovereignty and national welfare in favour of adhering to directives from unelected global entities – which is a betrayal of all Canadians.

Examples include:

  • Plans to restrict fertilizer use that would restrict food production and drive up costs.
  • The United Nations global climate initiatives, such as 15-minute cities and transitioning from meat-based protein to plant-based and insect-based protein.
  • The World Health Organizations health-related recommendations and mandates.
    • The WHO’s pandemic plan would usurp national control of healthcare once the Federal Government signs on and includes digital ID, CBDC, and an ESG social credit score to enforce compliance.
  • The World Economic Forum’s (WEF) economic and social directives.
    • Klaus Schwab, WEF CEO, states that the WEF influences as least half of Canada’s Federal Cabinet.
  • Plans to implement a social credit system with the technology to instantly turn off access to commercial activities (banking, restaurants, shopping, travel) if one does not comply with whatever the Federal Government states will serve the greater good of society based on its environment, social, and governance policies.

Threats to Individual Freedoms and Rights

The erosion of individual freedoms and rights looms large as federal mandates and regulations encroach on personal liberties. Albertans face the prospect of increased government control, surveillance, and intrusion into their lives, undermining the province’s democratic principles and values.

Examples include:

  • David Lametti, the Liberal Minister of Justice, has stated that Canadians do not have the absolute right to own property.
  • The demonstrated willingness of the Federal Government to initiate the “Emergencies Act” to remove all basic human rights.
  • The Federal Government’s internet and media censorship bills that, if passed, will further reduce the limited freedom of speech in Canada.

Socioeconomic Fractures and Cultural Challenges

Federal policies exacerbate socioeconomic disparities and cultural tensions within Alberta. Divisions deepen as ideological agendas, such as critical race theory and gender identity politics, sow discord, undermine social cohesion, and weaken institutions that are coerced into hiring employees on factors other than merit. The fabric of Alberta’s diverse communities risks unraveling under the weight of federal dictates and societal upheaval though ideological and cultural division.

Healthcare Crisis and Quality Decline

Alberta’s healthcare system, already strained, faces further deterioration under federal mismanagement and interference. Quality declines as costs soar, leaving Albertans with subpar healthcare outcomes and limited access to essential services. The province languishes in the lowest quartile of healthcare quality at the highest quartile of cost, a damning indictment of federal neglect.

Dependence on Federal Aid and Handouts

As Alberta’s resource-based economy is stiffled, Alberta risks becoming dependent on Ottawa for financial support. This dependency breeds complacency and stifles innovation, leaving Alberta beholden to federal dictates and vulnerable to economic shocks.

Summary

The future painted for Alberta if it remains complacent is bleak. A continued lack of sovereignty within Canada threatens to consign the province to perpetual subservience, economic decline, and social unrest. However, there is hope on the horizon if Albertans choose to seize it. The call to action is clear: Alberta must assert its sovereignty, empower its provincial government, and demand fair treatment within the Canadian federation. The time for passive acceptance has passed; now is the moment for Albertans to stand up, unite, and reclaim control of their destiny.

Through bold initiatives, such as establishing an Alberta Police Force, Pension Plan, Employment Insurance Plan, Immigration Policy, and Provincial Tax Collection System, Alberta can assert its autonomy and secure its future prosperity. By negotiating from a position of strength, Alberta can redefine its relationship with Ottawa and chart a path forward that prioritizes the well-being and prosperity of its citizens.

Alberta has the potential to be a beacon of freedom and prosperity, but this vision can only be realized through decisive action and unwavering determination. The choice is clear: continue down the path of subservience and decline, or forge a new future based on self-determination, resilience, and prosperity. The fate of Alberta lies in the hands of its people – it’s time to choose wisely.
