Has Alberta Reached the Tipping Point to Become Independent?

Published: Updated:

“But there is only 30% of the population who wants independence”.

It was common to hear this just before the Canadian Federal Election on 28 April. Since then the percentage of Albertans supporting independence has skyrocketed, and grows greater every day. This was even before a serious effort was implemented to educate the public about the benefits of Alberta Independence. Read: Alberta’s Five Freedoms to a Prosperous Future: F.A.C.E.E

Those supporting independence should be encouraged to know that they have much more than 30% support today; but, here’s the thing: it only takes 25% to change Alberta to favor independence. Sloan (2018), a researcher for the school of communication at the University of Pennsylvania, writes:

“When a minority group pushing change was below 25% of the total group, its efforts failed. But when the committed minority reached 25%, there was an abrupt change in the group dynamic, and very quickly the majority of the population adopted the new norm. In one trial, a single person accounted for the difference between success and failure” (Sloan, 2018, para 9).

So, while shifting Alberta’s pro-Ontarians might be challenging, there are still many that are undecided. A committed minority changes what people perceive as socially acceptable, and can lead to Alberta Independence.

Find Your Rallying Cry!

Something that brings people together for the common goal is so effective. It could be as simple as “Alberta Freedom”. One person calls out, “Alberta” while the rest of the group calls out “FREEDOM!”

Another one could have the group leader cry out, “Alberta” while the crowd cries out “POWER”. Wear an Alberta made T-Shirt, or hat, or pin, that tells everyone Alberta is your home. Whatever it is, make it yours.

Bring the people together for the common goal. Others will see your enthusiasm and join in!
Enjoy yourselves! Change is coming.
