Time to step forward with a strong Bill of Rights and Unified Ministries
Our various movements gave Danielle Smith an overwhelming level of support in her leadership review. Our whole-hearted support of Danielle resulting in a 91% vote of confidence was given with the express view of emboldening her to keep advancing Alberta Sovereignty.
While Danielle is one of the most impressive leaders of our time, we believe she needs a stronger cabinet. Our support for Danielle at the AGM is not to be confused with support for all her cabinet ministers. We believe she can do better. Many of the cabinet do not seem up to the task and are either ignorant of the wiles of government bureaucracy or are willing participants in government overreach. We are grateful to Danielle for advancing Alberta Sovereignty and protecting us from ongoing federal over-reach, but we do not see the push back against federal over-reach in many of her ministries.
The professions of cabinet unity, back patting and high fives are not convincing or encouraging to the majority of us. We want to see a cabinet that are in touch with Albertans and can emulate her bold leadership in their respective ministries.
The Alberta Prosperity Project is a non-partisan group and the support we (and others) delivered can be quickly withdrawn if people in her cabinet do not follow through with her commitments to Albertans.
Getting the Bill of Rights right
The key determining factor for ensuring ongoing support from her base is the correcting of the Bill of Rights to ensure Alberta is the best and safest place to live in all of Canada.
Section 1 of the bill of rights should be removed as it is a carbon copy of the Canadian Charter that proved so easy for the government to violate. The Western Standard article https://www.westernstandard.news/opinion/carpay-alberta-bill-of-rights-several-steps-forward-one-big-step-backward/58994 is an important read highlighting what Albertans want to see changed in the next iteration of the Bill.
If the government fails in this, the UCP could be facing the greatest loss in the next election.
On top of the Bill of Rights, Albertans want to see significant traction on the following to help secure Danielle and the UCP with the biggest victory in their history:
- An Alberta Pension (even one that runs alongside the CPP and gives Albertans a choice)
- Start collecting all tax in Alberta before the CRA is fully weaponized by the NDP-Libs.
- Start implementing an Alberta Police Service to replace the RCMP.
- Strengthen Alberta’s’ position in Supply Chain mechanics for the benefit of our local businesses and Alberta Agriculture.
- Ensure Albertans are protected from the federal overreach of the CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency) and PRMA (Pest Management Regulatory Agency) as they explore guidelines that could impact our future access to meat and other livestock products.
- A stronger push for the complete transformation of health services in Alberta and perhaps a consideration of the Health Insurance model as we see in Germany (same cost, better outcomes) Read: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK298834/
We wait with bated breathe. Make us Proud.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Baynes Director, Alberta Prosperity Project
