It also doesn’t come easy.
But if you ask anyone who’s slogged through the mud time and again only to finally find gold on the other side, they’ll tell you: “It was all worth it.”
That’s the beautiful thing about Albertans. We’re willing to grind it out, dig deep, and work hard to get things done. This journey toward greater sovereignty is no different. It requires action, patience, resilience through highs and lows, and a full understanding that the legal process for secession from Canada is a marathon. Yet, even the toughest tasks become easier with a strong support system and knowing that you have people in your corner. That’s YOU, Alberta-and the many cheering us on from across Canada, the United States, and beyond.

The Path to a Referendum:
Step 1: Digital Pledge Collection (You Are Here)
We’re gathering digital pledges from Albertans who would vote YES to the proposed question:
“Do you agree that the Province of Alberta shall become a Sovereign Country and cease to be a province of Canada?”
This digital collection helps us organize and prepare to mobilize for every step that follows. Just like building a skyscraper, the foundation must be strong-otherwise, the whole structure risks collapse. We’re committed to building this right 3.
Step 2: Official Petition Registration
Once we approach or surpass 600,000 digital pledges (the current legal requirement is 20% of electors, which is about 600,000 signatures, though proposed legislation may lower this threshold 5, 4, 7), we’ll register the official petition with Elections Alberta. Our goal is well beyond that.
After approval, we’ll activate our volunteers to collect the required physical signatures within a 90-day window. Only original, physical signatures are accepted – digital signatures are not valid for the official petition 5, 6. Volunteers will be organized by region to contact pledgers, knock on doors, and host town halls, all focused on education.
Step 3: Verification and Submission
Once we collect the required number of signatures within 90 days, Elections Alberta will verify them. If the petition meets all requirements, it proceeds to the Government of Alberta for consideration 6.
Step 4: The Referendum Call
If the government accepts the petition, a referendum will be called. A date is set, rules are established, and our job is essentially done. The website will be present for education, information searching, etc. 6, 7.
Step 5: If the Referendum Passes
If a clear majority votes YES, the Alberta government is legally required to begin negotiations with the federal government, Indigenous treaty partners, and other stakeholders 2.
The Legal Framework: Citizens Initiative Act & Clarity Act
- Citizens Initiative Act (Alberta):
Allows Albertans to propose legislative or constitutional changes through a formal petition process. For a constitutional initiative, the requirement is signatures from at least 20% of electors in at least two-thirds of electoral divisions, collected within 90 days. Only physical signatures are valid 5, 6. - Clarity Act (Canada):
Federal law stipulates that a province can only begin negotiations to leave Canada if a clear majority votes YES in a referendum on a clear question. Actual secession would require a constitutional amendment, meaning there are further legal and political hurdles even after a successful referendum 2.
10X the Mission for Alberta’s Future
Our strength is in our unity and determination. If you love Alberta and want to see her thrive, now is the time to act. Take the pledge, then invite 10 friends, family members, or colleagues to join you-and encourage each of them to reach out to 10 more. This is how movements grow and dreams become reality. Let’s 10X our mission, ignite a grassroots wave, and show the world what Alberta can achieve when we stand together.
Let’s keep the optimism high, the facts clear, and our love for Alberta at the heart of everything we do.
NOTE: We are using the current Citizens Initiative Act numbers because the proposed amendments have not yet been passed. Therefore, we must stick with 600,000 and 90 days as our goal posts.
Be a part of history.
Be Part of Alberta’s FutureYour contribution is more than a donation—it is a statement of belief in Alberta’s right to govern its own affairs. Every dollar strengthens our ability to inform, organize, and advocate on behalf of Albertans who value prosperity through self-determination.
Together, we can build a secure and prosperous Alberta—whether within Canada or as a sovereign jurisdiction.
Thank you for your continued support.
