Part 1.

Separation is on the minds of Albertans today. Many Canadians are telling Albertans (even fellow Albertans) that they should move to the US if they do not like being Canadian.

They argue like this: “If you don’t like your neighbourhood you don’t tell them all to move. You do”. This sounds reasonable, but this way of thinking presents two moral (right vs wrong) problems.

First, they are asking Albertans to give up the resources (like oil, natural gas, coal, and other minerals) under their feet. As well as the vast agricultural resources this province is known for. All jobs in Alberta relate in some way to the economy that these land resources bring to the province. These resources are used to build a future for Albertans, for their families, and for generations to come. It is a moral problem to tell Albertans, who don’t like the Canadian decision to keep resources in the ground, to leave, or to turn protein sources into bugs, instead of real meat.

Why? Because, “as a people,” Albertans have a right to their self-fulfillment, which is dependent on the land they live.

To ask them to move from that land is to tell them “their way of life” in Alberta is not valuable. Canadians telling Albertans to leave their land is based on their values that:

  1. “oil is bad”
  2. Albertans should keep resources and minerals in the ground
  3. Albertans cannot live off their resources available to them

For this reason, they believe that Albertans should be happy to accept their extinction, and say, “Good Bye” to their future. If Albertans are not happy about their decision, then Albertans should leave Alberta. This thinking is “wrong” as it seeks to extinguish a “way of life” that Albertans live using their resources they have in the land beneath them.

Canadians stating “you should move,” are telling Albertans, you must stop existing this way. This is similar to “stealing the land beneath their feet”. This is a skewed mindset. Canadians stating “you should move,” need to be challenged in their mindset.

It’s time to say, “It’s Your Move,” to those telling Albertans to give up their future and the future for generations to come. Alberta has already divided their families and sent loved ones to the USA, or the Middle East. This time, instead of these Canadians telling Albertans they should move, “It’s their move!”

See Part II of “It’s Your Move …” coming soon.
