In a move that has left many Canadians wondering about the future of Canada, the federal government has taken a significant step towards a more centralized and powerful government.
In her recent budget announcement, Condescending Chrystia Freeland, promises to “unlock the door to the middle class for more Canadians”. Anyone able to step through the door into the middle class will quickly realize this is simply a TRAP DOOR as they experience first-hand how the middle class has been decimated every day, as more and more taxes are taken to build her bigger and bigger government.
This budget announcement seems to be another attempt to buy votes from those who are not in the so-called middle class. The sad truth is that liberals and liberal economists still believe that you can tax your way into prosperity. The “tax the rich to distribute wealth” narrative is first, not true, and secondly, it destroys the small and medium-sized businesses that employ most Canadians.
The liberals seem determined to leave the Provinces behind as they build a stronger central government. You only have to look at the failed experiment of communism where power is centralized in so-called stronger and bigger governments. These governments promised to “take from the rich and give to the poor”, but eventually everyone realized it was simply a power grab and no one but the ruling class benefited. Their desire to concentrate power will continue to lead to increasing corruption, inefficiency, and a lack of accountability. This is exactly what history has taught us. And Canada slides obliviously into full-blown communism.
Online News Act Threatening Free Speech
In case someone suggests this is fear-mongering, you only have to look at the control of information through the Online News Act (formerly Bill C-18) and its impact on the Canadian digital news market. Bill C-18 aims to regulate the Canadian news marketplace by ensuring fair negotiations between news businesses and digital platforms.
The “bait and switch” of this Act is that it is sold “for the benefit of Canadian news agencies”, and the “switch” is the control of all unsponsored or foreign news, as Facebook and Google quickly realized. The control of information is a critical part of the slide into communism, and we see global voices of the WEF, WHO, and UN, etc etc all voicing their concerns about misinformation, or more honestly “not our information”.
The Online News Act has significant implications for Canadian news organizations, which have had varied reactions to the Act. Some Canadian news outlets have expressed concerns about the regulations and their impact on news availability. The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) plays a crucial role in overseeing and administering the new regulatory framework proposed by Bill C-18. The Act aims to enhance fairness in the Canadian digital news market by establishing a code of conduct for bargaining between digital news intermediaries and news businesses.
Digital news intermediary operators have specific obligations and responsibilities under the Online News Act, including the duty to notify the regulatory commission and comply with the established criteria. The Act defines eligible news businesses that can participate in the bargaining process and outlines the impact on news businesses in Canada. News businesses are expected to secure fair compensation when their content is made available by dominant digital news intermediaries.
The regulation and treatment of news content in relation to online platforms are central to the Act. The news industry has long called for fair compensation from digital platforms for news content, and Bill C-18 addresses this need. News organizations must meet eligibility requirements to participate in the bargaining process, and their reactions to the Act have been mixed. News outlets play a vital role in the Canadian news marketplace, and the Online News Act impacts their operations and agreements with digital platforms.
News publishers are required to negotiate with digital news intermediaries for compensation, ensuring that their content is fairly valued. Online communications platforms must adhere to the new legislation, making news content available under regulated terms. Qualified Canadian journalism organizations are defined by specific criteria, allowing them to participate in the bargaining process and benefit from the Act’s provisions.
Any reader of Russian or Chinese history will notice these markers of the slide into communism – we control information, we divide the population (rich vs poor, gender, race, urban vs farmers, the list goes on), we then increase taxes on the rich, we implement regulation that ensures the state retains all power over the means of trade, we eventually end up confiscating private property, we put dissenters in prison, we create a climate of unrest so that the citizens turn on each other. If you don’t read history, ask an immigrant – we’ll tell you our story if you listen.
When the liberal leaders of nations and their captured cities, spout the same talking points as other Western leaders (you’ll own nothing and be happy, gender-based division, climate alarmism to name a few), we begin to understand the coordinated approach to roll out this globalist / communist agenda. Government needs to be returned to the people directly affected by laws and regulations. In Canada, we’d all be better off if the power returned to the provinces.
Will Pierre Poilievre be the savior or the undertaker at Canada’s funeral? The country’s departure from its provinces towards the centre reiterated through this 2024 budget and Prime Ministers’ personal attacks on Premiers Moe and Smith, highlight the departure of Canada from its historical roots, leaving many to question the future of the nation.
Philosopher, Alan Borovoy, once said, “If we lose our freedom, it will not be because of invasion from without, but erosion from within; not because of autocratic dictators looking to do bad, but parochial bureaucrats seeking to do good.” The greatest threat to Canada is not from external forces, but from the very institutions meant to protect it. And, unfortunately, this is exactly what is happening in Canada.
What does this mean for the average Canadian and more specifically the Provinces? Simply put, it means that our freedom is being eroded from within. The federal government is growing stronger, and our individual liberties are being chipped away. So, what’s the solution?
The answer lies in recognizing the threat to our freedom and taking a stand against it. 1) Conservatives need to re-engage in politics and ensure our representatives do not approve the budget that facilitates this failed experiment. 2) Get behind those provincial voices advocating for provincial sovereignty and the remaining vestiges of what Canada used to stand for. 3) Demand accountability from our elected officials and hold them accountable for their actions, and most importantly, 4) we must remember that freedom is not a gift from the government, but a natural right that must be protected and defended.
