With the ongoing growth of the APP movement it seems like a good time to re-visit some of our founding documents. As you know the strapline of the movement is “A SOVEREIGN ALBERTA WITHIN OR WITHOUT CANADA”. As we survey our members the split between those wanting Sovereignty WITHIN or WITHOUT Canada is roughly a 50-50% split.
THE ORIGINAL STATED PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT:
The Alberta Prosperity Project purpose is to educate, inspire and unite all Albertans, businesses, and organizations to protect their prosperity, individual freedoms, rights, and sovereignty by empowering the Alberta government to restructure Alberta’s relationship with Canada
Relevance today:
More than ever before the original intent of this organization hold true. Think of your membership in the APP as your insurance policy against tyranny and ongoing attempts from the federal government to over-step their jurisdiction.
THE ORIGINAL VISION:
Our vision is for the prosperity, individual freedoms, rights, and sovereignty of all Albertans to be protected by a ‘Constitution of Alberta’ that is supreme to the Canadian constitution and that recognizes the Supremacy of God as foundational to Civil Society and the Rule of Law wherein:
- Alberta becomes the most free and prosperous nation or region in the world to live, work, raise a family, or start a business.
- Alberta becomes the lowest taxed and highest Average Real gross GDP per capita nation in the world.
- Pensions, Old Age Security and Veterans Benefits are markedly enhanced and secured.
- First Nations participate as ‘Equal Founding Partners’.
- No Albertan is left behind.
- Worker’s rights are protected, and all businesses are allowed to thrive, including Alberta’s resource sector.
- Social programs are compassionate and effective.
- Healthcare and education are of the highest quality and delivered effectively and efficiently.
- Every Albertan enjoys an enhanced quality of life and standard of living; and
- All property rights are definitively protected.
Relevance today:
We have the important leadership of Danielle Smith now in place and she immediately introduced the Alberta Sovereignty Act, which forms the first bulwark against federal over-reach. We are on the verge of having an Alberta Bill of Rights which will further protect our personal freedoms and rights. This Constitution is a work in progress, and we look forward to the protections it will bring.
NOTE: It’s now common language for us to speak about the protection of the Province from Federal over-reach. In reality we should all be outraged every time the federal government ignores the jurisdiction of the Provinces and seeks to undermine their authority. More than anyone the federal government should be protecting the interests of the provinces that make up Canada.
FOUNDING PRINCIPLES
- Alberta Will Be Strong, Free and Sovereign Within or Without Canada (Fortis et Libre – Coat of Arms)
- Alberta Will Create “The Constitution of Alberta” for and with Albertans (Supreme to the Canadian Constitution)
- Alberta Will Gather unto Itself All Power to Uphold Its Sovereignty
- Alberta Will Hold an Honest Referendum to Empower the Provincial Government to Restructure Alberta’s Relationship with Canada
Today
We need to keep the pressure on the government to move us towards a renegotiated relationship with Canada. It is clear to us that under the leadership of Daniell Smith we are well on our way towards this end and are making sure any future negotiation is from a position of strength.
